Senator A.J. Griffin Endorses Republican Garry Mize for State Representative
State Senator A.J. Griffin has announced her endorsement of Republican Garry Mize in the upcoming election for Oklahoma State House District 31. The Primary Election will be held in June 2018 and the General Election in November 2018.
Term limits prevent current Representative Jason Murphy from running again. House District 31’s boundaries include most of Logan County and northern Oklahoma County.
“I’ve known Garry Mize and his family for many years,” Senator Griffin said.
“Garry is a small business owner and investment advisor. We need more people like that in office – people who understand what it takes to run a business, balance budgets and deal with government regulation,” Griffin said.
“Garry’s roots go deep here, and he cares about our future. Garry will be a very effective leader at the Capitol, and I’m proud to support him.” Griffin said.
A Husband and Father
Mize lives in south Logan County with his wife, Jennifer. They have two children — Maxwell, 7, who attends Cross Timbers Elementary in the Edmond Public Schools, and Maddox, 4.
Jennifer is a UCO graduate who works as the area manager for commercial lending at JPMorgan Chase in Edmond.
A Guthrie Native
Mize’s children are the fifth generation of his family to live in Logan County. His roots in Guthrie go back almost to statehood. Mize was born at the old Guthrie hospital, and he graduated from Guthrie High School in 1995.
Mize’s father, Cecil, was a Guthrie postman. After retirement, Cecil started a roofing business that Mize helped with throughout school.
Mize’s mother, Lanette, has spent decades helping senior citizens in the Guthrie healthcare community. She’s worked at various home health, hospice and nursing home facilities.
A Finance Guy for a Finance Job
Mize has nearly twenty years of experience in the financial services industry and runs his own business, Mize and Associates, a retirement income and financial planning firm in Edmond.
A Man of Faith
Mize and his family attend NorthChurch, where they’ve served as small group leaders, on the Welcoming Committee, and on the Church Plant team for NorthChurch’s new Guthrie campus.
Conservative values are a main reason why other area residents say they are supporting Mize.
“Garry is a good man with strong traditional values. As with everything in his life, Garry’s decisions at the Capitol will be guided by his Christian faith,” said Richard Dreesen, a retired teacher and Deacon at Guthrie’s Noble Avenue Baptist Church.
Bobby Stewart, a regional Salesman for AFLAC in Edmond, said Mize is a “common sense conservative” who won’t get caught up in political gamesmanship. “Gary will focus on the priorities that really matter to our community, issues like job creation, stronger schools and honest, accountable government,” Stewart said.
